Staking
« Back to Glossary Index
Staking in the context of cryptocurrency involves participants locking up a certain amount of their coins in a wallet to support the operations of a blockchain network. In proof-of-stake (PoS) systems, these participants, known as validators, Staking serves as an alternative to the energy-intensive mining process found in proof-of-work systems, offering a more eco-friendly and efficient method of securing and governing blockchain networks. Staking encourages active participation, and plays a significant role in the decentralization of cryptocurrency ecosystems.
